Hope for Afghan Widows

October 29, 2013

It was almost by coincidence that we happened to hear the story of one widow’s private initiative in north-eastern Afghanistan. It’s an encouraging development that we have now begun to support.

Our project manager writes:

“Last year we got to know an Afghan lady who had started a widow’s project in Shignan, way up in the north-east of the country. 25 widows were learning how to make clothes and knitwear and produce felt carpets. By selling what they produce, they’re able to feed themselves and their children.

Now we have just visited some of the wonderful women who are taking part in a new training course with great enthusiasm. Thanks to donations from Germany, Shelter Now was able to fund the training and a certain amount of materials. We would like to offer further training courses, there are many widows with children. The women from the first course are still busy knitting, sewing and making carpets.”

A sustainable and encouraging project. Support widows and their families in Afghanistan! (Project No. 6120).
