Kabul School children Seek Sponsors

August 20, 2013

50 girls and 50 boys are keen to continue at our "Helping Hands" elementary school. We’re seeking sponsors to help pay for their education.

The Helping Hands school run by Shelter Now in Kabul. It’s great to watch the children playing in the yard during breaktime: they run around and play together with real energy and enthusiasm. Boys and girls from various ethnic backgrounds mix naturally - a rare example of peaceful coexistence in this country.

They demonstrate the same enthusiasm back in the classroom a little while later, where they work hard. They seem to really relish being at school. Their teachers clearly enjoy the work too and are very dedicated.

Schools cost money in Afghanistan – just as they do in the West. Teachers have to be paid, school materials and equipment need to be renewed etc. This is where you could be involved – for example by sponsoring a child. Costs can vary depending on the number of students in each year; the fixed costs remain the same. Right now we need around 25 euros per child.
